New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles is the latest to succumb to the injury bug that is currently plaguing the Saints. Sproles will miss Friday’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sproles suffered a mild knee injury in last Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.

Interim head coach Joe Vitt that the injury is minor and that Sproles is just suffering from soreness on his knee. Sproles will miss the Saints’ preseason home opener but is a more of a precaution than anything. Sproles should be back on the field for the Saints’ fourth preseason game against the Houston Texans. Furthermore, it should be noted that Sproles has not missed a game since 2007 and has become somewhat of an “ironman” amongst running backs in the NFL.

If there is any silver lining to Sproles’s injury it is that it will give the rest of Saints’ rushing unit a chance to show what they can do. The Saints are particularly deep at the running back position as they have Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram, and Chris Ivory along with Sproles. Thomas or Ingram will probably get the start with Sproles missing and they are both more than capable to start.

Sproles is without doubt the Saints’ most versatile player and a big part of their offense. I am sure Sproles will be ready by the start of the regular season. His injury is only minor and I know when he gets back on the field he will continue to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.
