2013 NFL Draft: Looks Like Cleveland Browns Want a Quarterback After All

(David Richard/USA Today Sports)

The 2013 NFL Draft is just a few days away and with the No. 6 pick–the Cleveland Browns could go in one of a few directions when it comes to their first-round pick. Despite spending a first-round pick on Brandon Weeden last season, there’s been talk about the Browns selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft and from early indications–it appears they do in fact want to draft one.

As a rookie, Weeden showed potential at times, but there’s still plenty of reason to be concerned over him being the team’s answer as a franchise quarterback heading into next season. With the number of players showing potential in this year’s draft, the last thing Cleveland wants to do is pass on a certain individual and miss out on the next great quarterback.

From Geno Smith to Matt Barkley to even EJ Manuel, there are some talented quarterbacks from this year’s draft class who could turn into the next great franchise star–so it’s no surprise to hear the Browns are interested in selecting a quarterback this year. Weeden certainly deserves another shot at proving himself at quarterback considering the lack of weapons in the passing game.

If Weeden does prove himself as a quarterback, that’s great for the Browns. If not–let’s hope selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft will at least give them a backup plan when it comes to the future if they do end up deciding on parting ways with Weeden down the road.
