Minnesota Vikings Rumors: Adrian Peterson Has Small Chance of Playing in 2014?

Adrian Peterson is set for a November 4th pre-trial hearing in his child abuse case. The hearing will go a long way toward determining his immediate NFL playing future as it’s expected that his attorney, Rusty Hardin, will push for a November 18th trial date, instead of waiting for the Dec. 1st date that’s already set.

In addition, a plea bargain could be reached before the actual trial date.

Either way, it’s entirely possible that Peterson will be completely done in court with a month to go in the season. If he is acquitted or reaches a plea deal of some sort, the pressure will then shift to the NFL. The league could opt to suspend AP under its personal conduct policy for the remainder of the year. Or, they could rule that he’s served enough time on the shelf (since Week 2) and let him return to the Minnesota Vikings.

What the Vikings would do with Peterson if he were deemed eligible to play is anyone’s guess at this point. The writing seems to be on the wall that his days in Minnesota are over, but as with most things in life, never say never.

It’s unlikely the Vikings will reactivate their former franchise player for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, they’ve basically already moved on from him and turned to the future with Jerick McKinnon at RB and Teddy Bridgewater at QB. Plus, you know that money/sponsors will play a part in his possible return.

But unlike a few weeks back, there’s now a small chance of Peterson donning the purple and gold once again in 2014. However, if the Vikings are out of the playoff race by December — what would be the point?
