The NFL is all about predictions, hype and speculation. It's part of what makes it the best sports league in America. But a lot of the time, predictions and expectations fall short. This season has been no different.

Let's take a look at the 10 dumbest things uttered around the National Football League thus far in 2014:

Remember this one? When the Bengals were flying high at 3-0 people were legitimately calling them the best team in football. But after a sorry Week 10 loss to the Browns and an all-time bad performance from Andy Dalton, the Bengals look just like the same old team that can't put it all together.

This one didn't last long. The Bills made a call to the pen for Kyle Orton only five games into the season (after a 2-2 start mind you), and they haven't looked back. Based on the way the veteran has played since taking over for Manuel, it's unlikely the former first-round pick will get his job back anytime soon. That includes next season.

8. New England Patriots Are Done

The Pats were crushed by the Chiefs back in Week 4. The 41-14 loss even had Pats fans scratching their heads. But to call them done? To say that Brady was washed up? Are you kidding me!? New England has since regained its normal form and will likely cruise to yet another playoff berth and AFC East title. Don't ever doubt Tommy Touchdown and the master of sarcasm, Bill Belichick.

7. Rex Ryan Deserves Another Year

At this point, it's highly unlikely Rex Ryan even makes it through this year. The Jets are flat out terrible, and they need a reboot. The only true way to do that is to ditch the coach. Ryan has had a fair shot over six seasons.

Johnny Football was set to take the NFL by storm this season, according to some. But thus far, Johnny Football has been nowhere to be seen. Brian Hoyer won the Browns starting QB gig over the summer and Manziel has been reduced to Johnny Clipboard during his rookie season.

5. Green Bay Packers Are In Trouble

It wasn't just Packers fans who were panicking, football analysts were also beginning to question this year's Green Bay team after a 1-2 start. But then Aaron Rodgers stepped in and told everyone to r-e-l-a-x. The Pack ripped off four straight wins and now are back on track. Don't ever doubt The Rodg.

You can't blame people for liking the Bears on paper before the season started. Their offense is absolutely loaded. Unfortunately, Jay Cutler hasn't been great and the once-great Bears defense is banged up once again. Currently, Chicago is just trying to keep its head above water at 3-5.

It wasn't completely crazy to think this back in August. Oakland had gone out and bolstered its defense with some proven veterans and in general seemed to be on an upward trend as a franchise. But here we are in Week 10, two head coaches deep, and the Raiders are still winless.

2. The NFC South Will Be Highly Competitive

It really felt like the NFC South was going to be one of the best divisions in football this season. The Saints are always good, the Panthers were coming off a tremendous season, while the Bucs and Falcons were supposed to be much improved. As of now, not one team is over .500 in the NFC South. It's a competitive division, but in a bad way.

Kirk Cousins played well for about a game and a half after taking over for the injured RG3 earlier this season. He's since been benched in favor of Colt McCoy, and the second RG3 was deemed fully healthy, he was put right back in the saddle. So much for trading him. And definitely so much for trading Cousins for a high draft pick. That ship has sailed.
