The Kansas City Chiefs were very lucky to leave town with a victory against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. Thanks to some timely fumbles and CB Ron Parker playing the game of his life, Kansas City left Buffalo in the driver’s seat for an AFC Wild Card spot. That’s not likely to happen every week. Andy Reid needs to come up with a better game plan for this Sunday’s home matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, especially on offense.

The Seahawks likely have the best defense the Chiefs will face for the rest of the regular season. Reid has to find a way to get the ball to his explosive players. You obviously want to make sure Jamaal Charles gets his touches, but there are some underrated playmakers with Kansas City who need to get more opportunities than they did against Buffalo.

Ridiculously fast rookie DeAnthony Thomas got just one touch on offense. Travis Kelce got just two targets, despite the fact his 282 yards after the catch are more than double than that of any other Chiefs player. It’s no secret Alex Smith doesn’t like to go deep. Getting the ball to the guys who can make something happen after the catch is the team’s best shot at breaking a couple of big plays.

Dwayne Bowe had a nice performance against the Bills, making eight grabs for 93 yards, but his 12 targets to Kelce’s two is far too lopsided. Bowe is becoming more of a possession receiver, and oddly the young tight end has a better chance of making something big happen.

Reid has called some great games this season, and he’s called some duds. He’ll need to bring his best against Seattle. The Seahawks, and the rest of the league for that matter, should be much more afraid of the Kansas City offense, but it’s too conservative and not utilizing all of its playmakers.

Reid and Smith need to take a few shots downfield to spread out the defense and find more ways to involve Kelce and Thomas. The 17 points the Chiefs scored against Buffalo isn’t going to cut it very often. In fact, they lost every other game this season in which they scored 17 or fewer.
