The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals by a score of 3-0 and Johan Hedberg stopped all 25 shots he faced; Pittsburgh eventually won the series in seven games.

1997
The Penguins lost to the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 6-3 being eliminated from the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and it was thought to be Mario Lemieux‘s final NHL game, but he would come out of retirement to play once again three years later.

1996
Dave Burrows, Edward J. DeBartolo and Elaine Heufelder were entered into the Penguins Hall of Fame.

1993
The Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils by a score of 5-3 and won the Patrick Division Seminfinals in five games.

1975
The Penguins lost Game 7 in the Quarterfinal being shut out by the New York Islanders, 1-0; the lone goal of the game was scored by Ed Westfall.
