On Thursday morning, Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie appeared on ESPN’s First Take via telephone.  He was asked many forward questions concerning the Eagles failing defense by panelists ex-Eagle Hugh Douglas, columnist Jemele Hill and the outspoken Skip Bayless.

The questions were asked in the setting of the First and Ten debate desk.  When asked directly what the biggest problem the Eagles had on defense, DRC was candid.  He mentioned that since many of the players are new, knowing each persons assignments has been a challenge.  Wow.

That is a direct indictment against Eagles defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo.  No doubt.  I have been outspoken about Castillo and have grown tired beating a dead horse.

Another curious statement made by DRC was about his scaled back role.  At Arizona, Cromartie was the number one cornerback and played every down.  With the Eagles, he has been relegated to a slot corner.  When he answered how he felt about his new limited role, DRC took a shot at the other two cornerbacks, Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel, maybe unintentionally.  Cromartie began his answer with the phrase, “older players”.

Granted, Asomugha and Samuels are in their thirties, while Cromartie is just 25.  DRC built up their experience, however, also intimated that he has youth on his side.

I love it when a player answers questions honestly.  It is a breath of fresh air, compared to towing the company line.  Listening to honest answers is the best way to get insight into the teams psyche.
