The training camp injuries just continue to escalate for the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost wide receiver Riley Cooper to a broken left collarbone and defensive end Jason Babin to a strained calf, on Saturday, which was the first day of full contact practices.

On Monday, the Eagles lost wide receiver Ron Johnson to a dislocated and possibly fractured left ankle during a non-contact play.

“We tried to reduce it on the field,” said trainer Rick Burkholder. “He tried to reduce it himself, and it wouldn’t stay in. Dr. Peter DeLuca [Eagles team physician] was with us on the field, he tried to reduce it on the field, and it wouldn’t stay in. The reason it wouldn’t stay in is, we think, there’s a fracture on the outside.”

Johnson was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, and spent 15 games on the Eagles’ practice squad last year. He was called up for the season’s final game when safety Kurt Coleman was placed on injured reserve.

“I really like him,” Andy Reid said of Johnson. “He’s been coming on since we got him. He’s been improving every day. He’s worked out all off-season like a wild man, and you hate seeing that. He’s a great, great kid and a good player, too. He’s a phenomenal player. He really had a chance to do something with our football team. This is going to be a setback for him, but he’s a battler, and he’ll battle through it. It’s hard. That’s the toughest part about the game.”

It has not yet been announced how much time Johnson will miss but it would be shocking to see him play this year. From a football standpoint, this injury will not affect the Eagles at all, as Johnson had virtually no chance of making the team.
