I’m looking forward to this evening when this year’s two NHL All-Star captains, Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins (along with assistant captain, Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers) and Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators (along with assistant captain, Joffrey Lupul of the Toronto Maple Leafs), choose who will play on each of his respective teams in the 2012 NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft.
This will be the second year that the league has used this format for dividing the players into two all-star teams and I believe I’m in the majority who feel that this was a change for the better.
This format even creates an additional realm of mystery for fans who plan to purchase an All-Star jersey of their favorite player by not knowing which team / color they’ll be getting until after the draft selection. This will be the first year I’ve decided to treat myself to one of these jerseys and, to me, it’s somewhat exciting not knowing which team / team colors I’ll be purchasing until after my favorite Pittsburgh player, James Neal, is drafted tonight (I’ll also admit I’m rooting for the blue team because I’ve never been a big fan of [the color] white).
The draft is set for tonight at 8:00 pm (est) and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network in the US and on TSN and RDS in Canada (check your local listings for additional information). One other event will highlight the weekend with the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, January 28th at 7:00 pm (est) before the actual 2012 Tim Horton’s NHL All-Star game on Sunday, January 29th at 4:00 pm (est). Both of which will be broadcast on CBC and RDS in Canada and NBC Sports Network in the US (again, check your local listings for further information).
