- Pittsburgh Penguins winger Martin Straka was stopped on a penalty shot by Buffalo Sabres goalie Dominik Hasek
2000
- Pittsburgh lost Game 3 to the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3 in overtime, and eventually lost the Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games
1999
- Penguins right wing Jaromir Jagr scored 8:59 into overtime as Pittsburgh defeated the New Jersey Devils, 3-2, to tie the Eastern Conference series at three games (the Pens won the series in seven games)
Pittsburgh went to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 2 (Eastern Conference semifinals) who they ultimately lost to in six games (4-2).
1993
- the Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the New York Islanders, 3-2, in the Game 1 of the Patrick Division finals and eventually lost the series in seven games
Pittsburgh had won the President’s Trophy this season. It was the team’s third chance at a Stanley Cup winning the two previous seasons (and to “three-peat”), but the Penguins fell short unable to make it out of the second round.
