6-Foot-2 Point Guard Jon Severe Commits to Fordham University

Much thanks to the great Adam Zagoria for the intitial scoop on this one. Jon Severe, the 6-foot-2 guard, will stay close to home and play for Fordham University next season.

“Next year I will be playing at Fordham University,” he announced at Christ the King High School.

Fordham coach Tom Pecora has got to be happy about this. His team finished an abysmal 7-24 last year and they could really use Severe’s scoring and distributing.

“And so ends the longest five minutes of his life,” Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello said.

Severe averaged a superb 21.6 points per game last year.

“His basketball IQ and his unselfishness are what sets him apart from some other guys.” Arbitello said about his young guard. “Maybe playing right away and having some confidence is better than going to a major, major Division 1 school.”

It will be interesting to see if Severe can get his shot off at the next level in the same way as in high school. He spurned a late flirtation with Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan, but he decided in the end he would rather play in the Atlantic 10. He will have more of a chance to shine, and will likely get more playing time than if he had gone to a bigger conference. Best of luck to Severe at Fordham, I’m sure his family is glad that he will be staying nearby and I’ll be looking for Fordham in the NCAA tournament the next few years.
