Kennedy Meeks reminds me a bit of one of the North Carolina Tar Heels of old, Sean May.
May gave his best season as a basketball player during his junior year as a Tar Heel. It resulted in Roy Williams winning his first championship as a coach. May then entered the NBA and never got into that same game shape again, so his career was quite short.
Meeks reminds of May, but when I look at their highlight reels, Meeks has a higher ceiling. He can post up like May could, but Meeks also has range out to the three point line and he is a severely underrated passer. Meeks will help next year’s lineup with ball spacing and passing.
He and Isaiah Briscoe will be quality additions to a Tar Heels lineup that includes P.J. Hairston and James Michael McAdoo who recently decided to return to school All they are waiting for is a quality wing to join the team too.
That’s a not so subtle reference to Andrew Wiggins for those who don’t read me much.
Meeks has been holding it down for Tar Heel Nation at all the All American games and when the Kentucky Wildcats recruits say they are going undefeated, Meeks merely says that he thinks the Tar Heels will win their matchup with the Wildcats. Meeks is quite bold indeed, he even claimed that he had Wiggins on lock down a couple weeks ago. News on the Wiggins front has been silent since then, so we can’t really trust what Meeks says yet.
We will just see though.
