Vikings QB Donovan McNabb on People Questioning His Work Ethic: ‘That Pisses Me Off’

Without even trying, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb always seems to find a way to have his name linked to controversy. While No. 5 claims to be in full support of Leslie Frazier’s decision to go with rookie Christian Ponder as the new Vikings starter, it’s the questioning of McNabb’s work ethic that seems to have really gotten under the quarterback’s skin.

In a recent interview with NFL Network special correspondent Andrea Kremer, McNabb discussed all of the talk surrounding his work ethic–basically saying how frustrating it was that anybody could even question his work habits considering they aren’t even around to see him in action. A few weeks ago, reports indicated that McNabb’s work ethic played a part in Frazier’s decision to bench the 13-year veteran, but the head coach has defended his quarterback–saying there’s no problem with McNabb’s work ethic and the previous reports are ridiculous.

Here’s what McNabb had to say about the whole work-ethic issue courtesy of Kremer:

“When people say that, about my work ethic, or the time that I put in, that pisses me off,” said McNabb. “Because I know the time that I put in. People that are around me know the time that I put in. I take this game very seriously. Now for anyone to challenge that and not come and see the way that I work or witness the things that I do and they make their own judgment? That pisses me off because you are expressing to people who don’t know me, who just listen to what commentators say or people write. That’s the opinion they’re going to take.”

Kremer’s interview with McNabb is scheduled to air Monday during the Sunday Sitdown on NFL Network’s Gameday Morning and it should be interesting to hear what else he has to say–especially about his recent benching. McNabb’s made it clear all along he wanted to be a starter this season, but being replaced by Ponder has to make you wonder whether or not this is the beginning of No. 5′s new role in the NFL of being a backup.
