REPORTS: Greg Schiano to be offered Tampa Bay Bucs HC job
Danny Wild-US PRESSWIRE

According to multiple reports this morning, Rutgers University head football coach Greg Schiano will be offered the head coaching job with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and sources from local Tampa Bay radio stations have all noted that Schiano will soon be offered the job and contract details are being worked through before a formal announcement is made.

Schiano has been pursued for other NFL head coaching jobs in the past, so the reports are not all that surprising, however, somewhat of a departure in tier from the pursuit of Oregon’s Chip Kelly.

Schiano’s reputation for developing NFL talent while at Rutgers (see Ray Rice, Kenny Britt, etc.) is undoubtedly part of what has made him attractive to NFL general managers in past coaching searches. Prior to now, the timing wasn’t right for Schiano and he was hesitant to make the jump.

If it turns out the reports are true, and Greg Schiano is offered the Tampa Bay Bucs job formally, it will be an interesting experiment for a team that is definitely willing to take risks with their head coaching hires.
