On Wednesday, the NFL released the 2012 preseason schedule for all 32 teams. The Minnesota Vikings began the rebuilding process last year by drafting Christian Ponder in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. With the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Vikings are looking to continue that movement.

Here’s a look at the Vikings’ 2012 preseason schedule:

Week 1: at San Francisco 49ers

Week 2: Buffalo Bills

Week 3: San Diego Chargers

Week 4: at Houston Texans

These games don’t mean as much as the regulars season because most teams tend to only play their starters for the first half at the most.

Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson’s ACL tear last season is going to be monitored extremely meticulously as the 2012 NFL season approaches, and rightfully so. He’s the foundation on which the Vikings’ franchise is built and as he goes, so go the Vikings.

Minnesota needs a big step forward by Ponder in his sophomore NFL season, a nice bounce back by Peterson and a big year from the playmaker the Vikings draft No. 3 overall this year. If all that happens, then perhaps Minnesota can start thinking about contending in the NFC North in 2013.
