Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs is coming off a phenomenal 2011 campaign in which he took home defensive MVP honors after recording 14 sacks and seven forced fumbles, but his status for next season is in jeopardy after tearing his Achilles’ tendon. Despite how serious this type of injury is, Suggs is willing to do whatever it takes to not miss any time off the field during the 2012 season.

Suggs seems determined to return to the field for Week 1 considering the injury is only a partial tear instead of a full one after having a successful surgery. Instead of the 11-12 month time table that was originally expected, there’s a good chance Suggs will be back to full strength in 4-6 months–which means he could be ready for the team’s critical Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Obviously, this would be great news for Baltimore as they would have their top pass rusher back in the lineup, but they also have to be cautious. The Achilles’ tendon is one of the most serious injuries in sports and the last thing the Ravens want is to have him back on the field too soon when it’s not fully healed.

Then again, Suggs is one of the most competitive players in the league–so he’s clearly going to do whatever it takes to make sure this injury gets healed as quickly as possible.
