NFL Rumors: Miami Dolphins LT Jake Long has Sprained MCL
Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The last thing the Miami Dolphins and their right-handed rookie quarterback want to hear is their star left tackle Jake Long may have suffered a sprained MCL during practice today. Long is tagged with protecting Ryan Tannehill‘s blind side and is one of the best left tackles in the league and has been since his rookie season.

Adam Schefter tweeted the news moments ago.

“Dolphins believe OT Jake Long sprained his medial collateral ligament during Monday practice. He’s getting an MRI to determine exact damage. “

This would be a killer blow to the Dolphins if it turns about to be anything more than what they are advertising. A sprained MCL is not that bad, but it could keep Long out up to a month while recovering. Protecting the quarterback is paramount to a young player like Tannehill’s success. David Carr with the Houston Texans is a prime example of a guy just not getting a fair opportunity due to running for his life on most plays.

One thing the Dolphins have had going for them since Bill Parcells ran the team is a good offensive line. Losing Long for any extended period of time would seriously hinder one of their strengths.
