The Seattle Seahawks moved two big names off their roster, wideout Terrell Owens and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, in the process of cutting down to a 75-man roster.

Seattle decided to move forward with quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn and sent Jackson to the Buffalo Bills late yesterday while Owens was released from the team after a lack of production in the preseason.

Other notable names on the cut were veteran offensive linemen Alex Barron and Deuce Lutui.

Here are the transactions by the Seahawks:

Cornerback Roy Lewis – Waived due to injury

Cornerback Ron Parker – Waived

Cornerback Donny Lisowski – Waived

Linebacker Jameson Konz – Waived due to injury

Defensive End Pep Levingston – Waived due to injury

Tight End Cameron Morrah – Waived due to injury

Wide Receiver Phil Bates – Waived

Running Back Tyrell Sutton – Waived

Offensive Tackle Edawn Coughman – Waived

Offensive Tackle Alex Barron – Released

Offensive Guard Deuce Lutui – Released

Seattle must cut down to the 53-man roster by Aug. 31.

The Seahawks have cut down their roster by getting rid of distractions and players who struggle to benefit the team. Owens has a history of hurting teams while Lutui has constantly battled weight issues. The offensive line needs more work and getting a new group in will help this process.

My thinking would be to keep Josh Portis as the backup for the upcoming season. Although Matt Flynn is a great player, I don’t believe he will be happy with another Back up role – (especially to a rookie). I think it makes sense both for him and the Hawks to trade him for some top assets right now.
In last years Preseason – Portis showed some exceptional talent and I believe he just needs a little more experience to really start to shine. With the one – two punch of Wilson and Portis I belive the Superbowl (and a coach of the year for Carrol) would be in the cards.
