The Seattle Seahawks finished the preseason undefeated for the second time in franchise history beating the Oakland Raiders 21-3 Thursday night at CenturyLink Field.

With final roster cuts coming up on Friday, head coach Pete Carroll rotated a number of different players to give them a last chance to earn a spot on the team. The Seahawks used three quarterbacks, five different running backs and had 13 other players targeted on a pass.

Rookie Russell Wilson started the game at quarterback for Seattle but only played during the first quarter. He finished the night completing 5 of 11 passing for 72 yards with zero touchdowns and interceptions.

Quarterback Matt Flynn came in to the game and threw for his first touchdown pass of the preseason. Flynn completed a pass four-yard pass to tight end Cooper Helfet for the score early in the third quarter. The free agent signing had a decent night throwing the ball for 102 yards completing 11 of 13 attempts.

Flynn showed some flair in this game and proved that not only will he be a great back up for Seattle, he is still a contender for the starting position if things do not pan out well for Wilson in his regular season start.

The running game was led by running back Kregg Lumpkin who ran for 71 yards on 20 carries but the lone rushing touchdown of the game came from Vai Taua who totaled 49 yards on nine carries.

The defense of the Seahawks looked as good as ever against the Raiders coming up with three sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Seattle’s first round draft pick, Bruce Irvin, came up with one and a half sacks on the night while rookie cornerback Jeremy Lane recorded the interception.

Seattle’s defense held Oakland to 101 yards of total offense and one field goal in the game.

The Seattle Seahawks finished the preseason on a high note with all facets of their game performing on high levels. The defense continues to come up with turnovers looking as strong as ever and the offense moved the ball down the field with some consistency.

Seattle also saw promise from a few different rookies this game including Irvin, Lane, Bobby Wagner, and Robert Turbin. The Seahawks continue to draft to help their needs and with the players showing production the team will continue to get better.

Seattle hopes to take the momentum they have gathered in the preseason to next week’s game as Wilson looks to face the division rival Arizona Cardinals in the first regular season game of his career.
