It has been confirmed that Lukas Podolski is signing for Arsenal, making public the worst kept secret of the season. This means that the German attacker will join countryman Marko Marin in heading for the English Premier League next term, with the man from Werder Bremen confirmed as a Chelsea player come the end of this season.

It is not unusual for deals to be wrapped up now, particularly with some players out of contract soon. For example, there is a great deal of interest surrounding Blackburn Rovers playmaker Junior Hoilett who is not penning a new contract with his relegation-threatened side. He could be off to Germany, however there are suggestions that he will remain in the EPL with someone other than his current employers.

At this time of year the rumors come thick and fast…

Reports in the UK also suggest that Swansea City’s on-loan poacher from midfield, Gylfi Sigurdsson, is being monitored by Manchester United, with their scouts also being sent to keep track of the highly rated and effortlessly nimble Shinji Kagawa, who is with Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.

It is always hard to keep track of transfer rumors, but it is patently clear that without Nathan Cleverley and with Anderson being injured more often than he graces the grass Manchester United need or at least want another midfielder. Alongside Arsenal, who have been repeatedly linked with Frenchman Yann M’Vila, the big teams look hell bent on snapping up Europe’s better midfielders.

For Arsenal, however, their greatest task may well be to hold on to their most potent attacking threat, Robin Van Persie.

Many teams are looking to go through regenerative summer periods and Barcelona are one side who have clearly blurted that their attack is due for a re-jig. Add the name of PSG to the list of RVP’s admirers and it looks as though Arsenal need to have showdown talks with their captain.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have been linked with Van Persie, but with club representative Patrick Vieira watching Eden Hazard do this at the weekend, and the Lille tyro then stating his desire to play in the EPL, perhaps Man City will be happier opting for the Belgian rather than the Dutchman…

As we approach summer the rumors will grow in number before the truth really comes out. Keep your eyes on PSG, Barcelona, Man United, City and Arsenal.
