Daniel Sturridge’s Injury Is a Big Blow for Liverpool
Liverpool got off to a terrific start to the season and that’s due in part to their solid partnership upfront.
The duo of Luis Suárez and Daniel Sturridge has already scored 20 goals with the English international leading the team with 11, but that duo will be held out of action for a while as Sturridge will be sidelined for, approximately, two months.
The England star slipped in a training session and the medical staff of The Reds thought it was only something with his toe, but after a scan it was shown he got a ligament strain that will keep him off the pitch until next year.
It’s definitively a big blow for Liverpool as they will lose their best player for the December stretch but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have enough players to replace him. Luis Suárez will definitively have to step it up and he has shown capable of carrying the offense in the past but in order to maintain the partnership, there are two options that could be slotted in while Sturridge is out.
Youngster Raheem Sterling and winger Victor Moses are the two main choices to replace the former Bolton player and while none of them can actually replace his goal scoring production, they can add a lot of pace and flair to Liverpool’s forward line. Whether either Sterling or Moses is the one chosen, their presence is is expected to allow Suárez to operate as a poacher in a role that he feels much more comfortable.
The Reds surely suffered a big blow in losing Sturridge, but Liverpool definitively has options to replace him. But the sooner he can get back on the pitch, the better for The Reds as they will look to maintain their title chances until the final weeks of the season.
