Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund is in need of a knee surgery.

Ohlund has played a large majority of his 14-year career in Vancouver. The Lightning acquired Ohlund in 2009 and he has been a great addition for them.

This would have been Ohlund’s third season playing in Tampa except that he has been out all season with a knee injury he received near the beginning of October.

In his two seasons played with Tampa he has a total of 18 points, is an aggressive player, and right now the Lightning couldn’t be missing assistant captain Ohlund too much more as the Lightning are struggling more than others would suspect.

Tampa Bay is in dire need to pick up some defensemen now that Ohlund is officially out with surgery and fellow d-man Pavel Kubina was recently traded to Philadelphia for a left-winger and a couple picks.

The Lightning organization discovered that he was going to be in need of surgery and were quick to act on it. Thursday February 23rd Ohlund will be in Ohio for his surgery while the 11th place Lightning will be on the road to face the rising Winnipeg Jets.
