In the aftermath of the NCAA sanctions recently handed down to the Penn State football program, it appears at first glance that most of the Nittany Lions football team will remain in Happy Valley, though are a few players who are rumored to be looking elsewhere.

One of the latest college football rumors involving a possible Penn State transfer involves the Nittany Lion’s kicker, Anthony Fera, and the possibility that he could be looking to join the Texas Longhorns this fall.

Fera, a redshirt junior who hails from Cypress, Tx., handled place-kicking, kick-off, and punting duties for the Nittany Lions last year. He was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza award, given to the nation’s best kicker, last season. He was also a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, given to the country’s top punter. Fera was named the 2011 first-team All-Big Ten punter by ESPN.com and second-team all-conference by the media and coaches last season as well.

Last year, Fera made 14 field goals out of 17 attempts, or 82.4%. He was 11-11 in field goals inside 40 yards, 3-5 between the 40-49 yard lines, and missed his one 50+ yard attempt. Additionally, Fera was a perfect 20-20 in extra points.

Considered one of the best punters in the Big 10, he averaged 42 yards per punt last season.

Not only was Fera raised in the State of Texas, he has ties to the University of Texas as well; both of his sisters graduated from UT.

It’s still in the early stages, but there are rumors coming from both programs that a trip to Texas could be in the works very soon for Fera, and that both parties could be showing some interest.

With the graduation of Texas Longhorns punter and kicker Justin Tucker, the kicking game is a big question mark heading into the season. Though they have some players who would be able to perform the kicking duties, the favorite to win the job is an incoming freshman, so it would be great for the Horns to reel in a player with some experience.

Again, at this point, it’s just rumor and speculation, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on.
