Dashon Goldson might just be the hardest hitting safety in the NFL, but that title is only landing him 15-yard penalties and suspensions as of late.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ safety was fined $35, 000 in Week 1 for an illegal hit on New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland, and apparently Goldson didn’t get the message that the NFL doesn’t take kindly to such dangerous hits. Reports say that Goldson has been suspended for the Buccaneers’ Week 3 matchup versus the New England Patriots for his helmet-to-helmet hit on New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles in Week 2.
Tampa Bay had to know what it was getting itself into by bringing Goldson to town, because no NFL player has racked up more personal fouls than Goldson since 2010 with 15 such penalties.
Considering fines don’t seem to phase the old-school defensive back, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has no choice but to take away something away from Goldson that he holds more dear than money…playing time.
While Goldson plans on appealing the one-game ban, he likely won’t be playing on Sunday because repeat-offenders like Ndamukong Suh have been nailed by the NFL time and time again and this hardly Goldson’s first time being in hot water. Hopefully a one-game suspension can teach a highly-paid Goldson to change his game, because the Buccaneers surely didn’t pay him to be missing games and taking personal fouls.
