NCAA Tournament Sweet 16: Syracuse vs. Wisconsin Preview
Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE

Game: (1) Syracuse – (4) Wisconsin 3/22 7:15 PM ET

Bracket: West Region

Game Analysis: Syracuse continues to win games, despite missing their biggest interior presence, Fab Melo, for the entire tournament.  The Orange desperately need to establish themselves in the paint without their star forward, something that has left them vulnerable to strong inside scorers.  Wisconsin loves to penetrate with the ball and is not afraid to let it rip from outside.   The Badgers are one of the most experienced teams left in the tournament and will rarely turn the ball over.  Wisconsin will be a very difficult test for Cuse, as this is looking like the upset pick of the week.

Matchup to Watch: PG Scoop Jardine, Syracuse vs. PG Jordan Taylor, Wisconsin – This matchup features the two best senior point guards in the nation.  Jardine has really stepped up this tournament with 27 points and 15 assists in their two games.  Unfortunately, he has turned the ball over 9 times during that span and will have to be much more careful with the ball against the stout Wisconsin defense.  Badgers’ point guard, Jordan Taylor, is the team’s natural leader.  He leads the nation’s most disciplined offense with 14.7 points and 4 assists, but the senior’s best stat is that he is only turning the ball over 1.6 times a game.

Matchup to Watch: F Kris Joseph, Syracuse vs. F Mike Bruesewitz, Wisconsin – “KoJo” is the only veteran left in the middle with Melo gone, so the interior matchup will be extra critical to the outcome of the game.  Joseph is a very thick forward to find down low and will be difficult for Bruesewitz to keep in front of him.  Joseph will win the matchup in the paint, but Bruesewitz will consistently spread the floor with his ability to hit shots from the perimeter.

Prediction: Wisconsin 64 – Syracuse 62
