In an interview with Fox sports, Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher talked about how he’s rehabbing after the injury to his knee in the final game of the 2011 season and some talk about retirement-contract.

First off, Brian Urlacher said that his knee is doing great andshould be 100% by the start of next season. If you recall, Urlacher injured his knee going up for the ball and his teammate Chris Conte went for the ball too and landed on his knee. To make the situation worse, the ball fell incomplete. The more important issued talk about in the interview was Urlacher entering his final year of his contract. Urlacher said he’ll love to play 3 or 4 more years ;however, if that’s not with the Bears he will retire. Urlacher stated if the Bears don’t want to re-sign him or he’s clearly ineffective, he’ll likely retire.

I don’t see this as Brian Urlacher’s last season and think he has at least 2 more years in him. So … new general manager Phil Emery could offer him a 2 year contract after this season. He means Chicago and not having him in the middle of the defense would be weird. Even worse …. playing for another team. However, Urlacher sounds like a true Chicago Bear and won’t play elsewhere. That’s the best I got out from the interview.

Urlacher has been with the Bears since they drafted him in the first round (9th overall) of the 2000 draft. He’ll end his Hall
of Fame career (yes, he will be a future Hall of Famer) as one of the best Chicago Bears linebackers joining Bill George, Mike Singletary and Dick Butkus.

When Brain Urlacher does retire … I think he’ll end of being a coach (defensive coordinator) or have a position in the Bears front office. He’ll be a Bear even after his playing days come to an end.

All in all, it’s going to suck when Urlacher does in fact retire and the defense will look different. Yeah, just one player will make
that happen.
