Cincinnati Bengals kicker and former Ohio State standout Mike Nugent set numerous franchise records last season after making 33 of 38 field goals and recording 132 points. Now, it appears Nugent is valuable enough to the Bengals for the team to place the franchise tag on him.

According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals have placed the $2.6 million tag on Nugent to bring him back for a third season with the team. Nugent converted nearly 87 percent of his field goal attempts in 2011 along with reaching the end zone on 67 of 80 kickoffs–so it’s no surprise the team would want to bring him back in 2012.
