The failed proposal happened during a college basketball game between the UCLA Bruins and Richmond Spiders.

It’s like watching a train wreck, you know you should look away but you just can’t. If you think the video is hard to watch, can you imagine what it must have been like sitting right next to the couple?

The best part is everyone seemed to be in on it. The arena “mistletoe cam” is on them, the woman with the microphone is ready to interview them and the crowd is clearly into it. Everything seemed to be going perfect until the woman shook her head no and moved quickly away from her boyfriend as he grasped for her hand. I guess the only thing to do at that point is to shake your head in disappointment and fight back the tears which this man seems to do successfully, I think, the camera moves away a little too quickly to get a confirmation on the crying.

I also really enjoyed the booing from the crowd as the woman with the microphone tries to politely blame it on being camera shy. I’m not sure what is worse, the fact he got denied on the “mistletoe cam” or the walk of shame out of the arena minutes later with everyone staring.

According to Yahoo, a UCLA spokesman told Los Angeles Times writer Baxter Holmes the proposal wasn’t staged which makes this video that much harder to watch.

Caution: Next time you think about proposing to your girlfriend in a public place, please refer back to this video.
