When the name Kyrylo Fesenko comes up it doesn’t exactly bring to mind any MVP awards or All-Star appearances, at least this season, but he is a young 7’1 center with a plethora of raw talent. Fesenko can also provide depth, and a big body down low to fill a void left by last year’s center Tyson Chandler. Especially in a shortened season, stacked with many back to backs and even a few back-to-back-to-backs in their schedule, the Mavericks, and any other team, could use a young big man to shore up their roster.

It was reported earlier this week that Fesenko had signed a one year deal with the Golden State Warrior worth just under $1.1 million, but both sides mutually decided to cancel these plans when Fesenko decided that he would need an extra week or two to get into shape after undergoing knee surgery in September. After the deal with the Warriros fell through the Dallas Mavericks appeared back in the mix and now sources are saying that Fesenko will sign with the Mavericks.

Fesenko will reportedly accept the Mavericks one-year minimum offer, terms undisclosed, and his formal decision will more than likely come early next week. After the departure of Chandler to the New York Knicks, which was officially a sign-and-trade, one would think that center would be the position of need for the Mavericks but Chandler’s replacements have been doing quite well. Brendan Haywood has played good, Ian Mahinmi has had a few stretches of good play, and Sean Williams has even been a good spark off the bench.

Although Fesenko averaged just 2 points and 2 rebounds in 8 minutes last season he will definitely provide good useful minutes for a Mavericks frontcourt that could definitely use the added help.
