Jeremy Lin has been ruled out of the remainder of the first round,  New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said Tuesday. The team currently trails the Miami Heat 3-1 in the series.

“Speaking with medical and Jeremy, he will not play this series,” Woodson said Tuesday. “He’s just not ready. The will let me know when he’s ready and I’m sure he’ll step up to the plate when that time comes. But right now, he’s out.”

Lin underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus on April 2nd. While doctors estimated an original timetable of six weeks, Lin was said to be ahead of schedule earlier in the series. The Knicks are extremely thin in the backcourt, with season-ending injuries to both Iman Shumpert andBaron Davis earlier in round 1. New York will roll out 33-year-old Mike Bibby, with reserve Toney Douglas also getting minutes at point guard. In addition to the injuries at guard, both Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudemire have dealt with health issues throughout the postseason, the latter coming after punching a fire extinguisher after a game 3 loss.

The news is saddening for Knicks fans hoping to see a repeat of “Linsanity”. While his run in the regular season was memorable, a streak of wins against the Heat would have been legendary. New York avoided elimination on Sunday with a two-point victory over Miami at home behind 41 points from Carmelo Anthony. The team will now head down to South Beach facing elimination once again on Wednesday.
