It’s been about about a decade since Glenn Robinson laced up his sneakers in a Milwaukee Bucks uniform. The time is right to give Robinson his day in the sun. It’s time Milwaukee honors the former #1 overall draft pick of the 1994 NBA Draft by hanging his #13 from the BMO Harris Bradley Center rafters.
The ‘Big Dog’ spent eight seasons in Milwaukee and was an instrumental part of the basketball revival that saw the Deer playing in Game 7 of the controversial 2001 Eastern Conference Championship Series in 2001 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Unfortunately, Glenn is remembered most for his missed baseline shot in Game 5 of that same Series that would have propelled the Bucks to a 3-2 Series lead heading back to Milwaukee for the clinching Game 6.
It’s time to erase that memory.
Herb Kohl, the Bucks organization and the city of Milwaukee must do the ‘Big Dog’ right and give him his just due as one of the greatest players in franchise history.
If there was a more consistent player than ‘Dog’ over the course of his Milwaukee Bucks career, please inform me. Glenn averaged 20+ points per game in 7 of his 8 seasons in the ‘Brew City’. Here’s Robinson’s scoring averages per game starting with his rookie season: 21.9, 20.2, 21.1, 23.4, 18.4, 20.9, 22.0 & 20.7.

Rebounding you say? At about 6-7 and positioned at the ‘3’ (small forward) throughout his Bucks career, ‘Big Dog’ averaged these rebounding totals over his eight seasons in Milwaukee: 6.4, 6.1, 6.3, 4.5, 5.9, 6.0, 6.9 & 6.2.
Robinson is also a career 82% free-throw shooter, was efficient on 34% of his three-point attempts and quite possibly owns the best mid-range jumper of all-time.
I am fairly certain that if you look up the word ‘consistent’ in the American Dictionary and an example is given, Glenn Robinson will be listed.
Robinson adds two all-star appearances (should have been at least 4) and the boast of being the 2nd leading scorer in the rich history of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise to his resume.
If Glenn Robinson had been drafted by a big market, the guy would have been a mega-star. Yet, ‘Big Dog’ embraced the city of Milwaukee and playing in a small-market culture and readily accepted his role as the face of the franchise for eight incredible seasons.
The former Mr. Indiana, McDonalds’ All-American, Big Ten Conference player of the year and College Basketball player of the year deserves to join Oscar Robertson, Sidney Moncrief, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Junior Bridgeman, Brian Winters, Jon McGlocklin & Bob Lanier as the 8th player in franchise history to have his number hanging in the rafters.
Herb Kohl, I hope that you’re reading. Give Glenn Robinson the day he deserves. Put #13 in the rafters. Let the ‘Big Dog’ bark once more.
