2013 Fantasy Baseball: 2B Brandon Phillips Having Another Underrated Season

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Fantasy baseball fans have been talking about how amazing Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto has been all year, and how the first baseman vastly compares to baseball legend Ted Williams. However, 2B Brandon Phillips is also having an unbelievable season in his own rights and anyone with the star on their roster can certainly attest to it.

The veteran currently has 44 RBIs, which is third in the entire National League. He also has an amazing .296 batting average to go along with nine home runs. Baseball fans love to praise him for his defense, but Phillips is one of the strongest hitters at his position as well.

Phillips is a three-time Gold Glove winner and is one of the best to ever field his position. He makes plays that look impossible, and even crazier; he does it with that patented smile on his face. Phillips is one of the safest options at second, not only because of his jaw-dropping stat lines, but also because he is as sure-handed as they come in the infield.

He may have missed a couple games this week with a forearm injury, but it speaks volumes to his durability that he hasn’t been placed on the disabled list, especially with an All-Star going on the shelf everyday this season. The 31-year-old has played in at least 140 games in seven straight seasons and it is safe to say that he will make it eight in a row in 2013.

Phillips has earned his spot as an All-Star fantasy second baseman and will continue to be an anchor at second moving forward.
