2013 Fantasy Hockey: D Kevin Shattenkirk Starting To Heat Up

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Blues continued their hot streak on Thursday night by demolishing the Colorado Avalanche 7-2. St. Louis has now won seven of their last nine games and they are currently third in the entire  NHL with 3.5 goals per game. The team’s offensive explosion has caused everyone on the roster to see their fantasy hockey value go through the roof.

One of the most productive fantasy options in St. Louis this season has been D Kevin Shattenkirk. The 24-year-old was a highly coveted defender in fantasy dynasty leagues this fall, however, he got off to a pretty slow start this season. He only amassed three points through the first seven games of the 2013 season and many wondered if he was really worth picking within the top-20 defenseman.

Shatty has recently busted through his slump, though, and he is once again contributing like an All-Star defender. He has now racked up 10 points his last 10 games alone, including a staggering nine helpers from behind the blueline. Shattenkirk is leading the squad with 11 assists all of a sudden and the veteran has quickly become one of the most consistent contributors on the high-scoring St. Louis team.

Shattenkirk is a must-start in every format, especially while he is on such a hot steak. Look for him to rival his career numbers across the board this season and finish among the top-10 defenders in all of fantasy.
