2013 Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: G Kevin Poulin

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

It isn’t too often that a starting goaltender is sitting on the fantasy hockey waiver wire, especially in deeper 14-man formats. People love to stockpile netminders and it is next to impossible to try to obtain a starter in any type of trade.

However, one starting goalie currently sitting on the wire on in the majority of leagues is G Kevin Poulin of the New York Islanders.

Poulin was handed the number one spot after starting netminder, Evgeni Nabokov, injured his groin in a game last week. Nabokov has been slated to be out for at least a couple weeks and the veteran’s setback has given Poulin a chance to log some serious time between the pipes.

Poulin has somewhat struggled lately, as he has allowed six goals over his last two starts. The 23-year-old is just starting to get into a rhythm and has only played in eight games this year. The kid still has career 2.68 Goals Against Average and has been brilliant at times. He should shine with the strong offensive lineup in front of him.

If you need a starting fantasy goaltender, add Poulin off the waiver wire as soon as possible. He will get plenty of time between the pipes in the upcoming weeks and could surprise people by hanging onto the gig once Nabokov returns.

Poulin is still available in over 71% of CBS formats and can post immediate value. He will get a handful of starts each week and won’t have anyone threatening him for time until Nabokov gets back.
