2014 Fantasy Football: Tony Romo is Being Wrongly Overlooked

In standard fantasy football leagues, most owners draft only one quarterback. It’s clear cut who the the top-10 quarterbacks are. However, there are some quarterbacks who are being gravely overlooked based on real-life situations and not on their fantasy value.

The biggest overlooked quarterback heading into the 2014 season is Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Tony Romo.

Fantasy owners tend to hide from Romo, but for no real reason. He finished as the 10th-best quarterback overall and ninth in fantasy points per game (16.8). Outside of the 2010 season, Romo has only missed four games. He has been great for the last three seasons, throwing 90 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He threw 31 TDs and 10 INT in two of those three seasons.

The Cowboys also made some coaching changes. The team hired Scott Linehan as the new offensive coordinator. While this may not seem like a big deal, it will help Romo’s fantasy value.

While he was with the Minnesota Vikings from 2002-2004, no quarterback had more fantasy points than Dante Culpepper. A few years later, he was with the Detroit Lions. From 2011-2013, only four quarterbacks had more points than Matthew Stafford.

Romo has some great weapons to throw to — Dez BryantDeMarco MurrayJason Witten and up-and-comer wide receiver Terrance Williams. Bryant and Witten are both top-five players at their respective positions. Murray finished has the eighth-best running back and will continue to improve.

If you can hold off on drafting a quarterback until the 10th or 11th round before drafting a quarterback, then Romo will be all yours. He is easily going outside the top 10, sometimes even going undrafted. With his weapons and consistent numbers, Romo will finish as a top-10 quarterback for the fourth consecutive year.
