PGA Tour: Plenty of Movement in FedEx Cup Standings Heading into May

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Each week, the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup gets a shake-up depending on where golfers finished in the previous week or if they even played the event. Tiger Woods has been firmly entrenched atop the standings after grabbing the honor from 2012 FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker.

Thanks to his win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Billy Horschel catapulted himself from 14th to third in the rankings. He has been playing incredible golf as of late, having made 23 consecutive cuts and finishing inside of the top 10 in four straight events.

Horschel wasn’t the biggest mover of the week, however, as Kyle Stanley jumped up 72 points from 151st to 79th in the standings thanks to his third place finish in New Orleans. Joey Snyder III moved from 222nd to 182nd with his T21 finish and Lucas Glover finished tied for eighth and moved up 37 spots to 58th.

There is obviously still a lot of golf left to be played this year as we are only at the end of April. The majority of events on the Tour schedule are worth 500 FedEx Cup points to the winner, so there is plenty of potential for movement. The big names are likely to remain somewhere near the top, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for some of the lesser-known, obscure guys to make a move.

Snedeker wasn’t necessarily an unknown when he won the $10 million FedEx Cup prize, but that accomplishment moved him firmly into the conversation as an upper-echelon golfer. And isn’t that why these guys do what they do in the first place?
