In a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Colts complex in Indianapolis, Jim Irsay officially introduced his new general manager. Let the Ryan Grigson era begin.

Grigson, 39, has held several job titles during his 15+ years in front offices of the NFL and CFL, but this will be his first attempt at the general manager position. Grigson comes over from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he helped in scouting such players as LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson. He also assisted with bringing free agents like Jason Babin and Nnamdi Asomugha to Philly.

Although the Colts job will be Grigson’s first attempt as an NFL general manager, Irsay believes that he has found the right man to fill the shoes of Bill Polian, whose tenure with Indianapolis led to a victory in Super Bowl XLI and a decade’s worth of playoff births.

“I picked Ryan because I felt that he had a vision, that he had an intelligence, that he had a perception and awareness,” the Colts owner said Wednesday. “Going through the process, we started with 25, maybe 30 people.  It was an experience that helped me in determining our future and looking at where we’re at. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Grigson began his first statements at the Colts podium by thanking God, his wife, his five children, and the Eagles. He also credited Polian for the Colts success during his time as general manager over the last decade. “My goal is to bring this team back to where it was, and build off that and do great things. Why else would you want to be in this position, if you didn’t want to do great things?”

Grigson was raised in Highland, Indiana and played football for Purdue. “I couldn’t be more excited to be back here in my home state,” Grigson said. “It’s really, really truely a blessing to be back.”
