In the most anticipated NFL pre-season match-up of the year, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III surely gave the fans what they wanted as both came up big as the Washington Redskins defeated the Indianapolis Colts in a 30-17 bout. With the battle of the No. 1 and No. 2 pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, both came up even, showing what they can do in their different skill-sets.

Both showed how well they can be as each capped off touchdowns on 80-yard drives. Luck was able to avoid the rush and connected with wide receiver T.Y. Hilton for a crazy 31-yard touchdown that tied up the game 7-7 in the second quarter. Griffin would then do a drive of his own, finishing off the 80-yard drive with a nice, four-yard pass to Santana Moss to put Washington up 14-7 at halftime.

Overall, both were on top of their game. Luck would finish off the game going 14-of-23 for 151 yards along with a touchdown. Griffin did solid as well, going 11-of-17 for 74 yards and a touchdown. The back-ups were impressive too, as Indianapolis’ Chandler Harrish went 12-of-19 for 147 yards. Rex Grossman was perfect, going 8-of-8 for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Both quarterbacks have been pretty neck-and-neck throughout the pre-season. Luck has gone 40-of-64 for 514 yards with three touchdowns and two picks (90.2 rating). Griffin, on the other hand, has gone 20-of-31 for 193 yards and two touchdowns with a 103.2 rating. However, the big issue will be the offensive lines for each of them, as both sometimes struggled, getting sacked a couple of times already.

Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris did very well in the game, taking over the Colts defense, gaining 107 yards off of 14 carries along with a touchdown. A problem for Indianapolis, however, was losing out on Jerraud Powers in the game, who sprained his knee in the first quarter. We’ll see how big the issue really is.

Overall, Indianapolis still has a lot of improvements to make, especially with the defense. The Colts are so far 1-2 in the pre-season. We’ll see if they can even up their record in their pre-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals next Thursday.
