One of the few remaining football prospects in the top 10 of the 2013 class has made his commitment.

Widely considered the nation’s top cornerback prospect, Vernon Hargreaves has committed to the University of Florida to begin playing his college ball there in 2013. It’s a huge story in the world of college football recruiting that’s flying around the Internet.

Following a visit today to the Florida campus in Gainesville, Hargreaves tweeted the following:

I can officially say I am committed to THE University of Florida ! #GoGators CHOMP CHOMP

Vernon Hargreaves

Hargreaves is a game-changing talent and could indeed compete for playing time as soon as he arrives to play for Will Muschamp as a true freshman next fall. According to scouting reports on the 5’11″, 185 pound corner, there are few holes in his game, and he could indeed be able to play for several Division I teams as a high school senior.

Being a coach’s kid– his dad is the defensive backs coach at the University of South Florida– Hargreaves almost always in the right place at the right time and could become one of the better cover corners in the SEC the second he steps on the field in 2013.

If there is any concern, ironically, regarding Hargreaves it’s that he may have already reached his peak and his upside may not be that great. Given that this peak is as great as it is, however, I imagine Will Muschamp and the Florida coaching staff will be just fine with that.

Regardless, it’s a huge get for the Florida Gators and the type of commitment that could lead to a domino effect which every head coach dreams of.

Could Florida be an SEC darkhorse sooner than later?
