Miami Marlins Should Do Giancarlo Stanton a Favor and Trade Him

I always have a hard time feeling bad for athletes. I mean, they are getting paid millions of dollars to play a game, so why should I feel bad for them?

However, Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton isn’t getting paid millions, and I really wouldn’t consider playing for the Marlins as playing a game. I’m sure someone who is reading this hates going to their job each day because of the people they have to work with. Sometimes, a working environment can be a mental drain on an individual — after all, the phrase “going postal” didn’t evolve out of nowhere.

This is why I believe the Marlins should do Stanton a favor, stop delaying the inevitable, and trade their lone superstar.

It comes as no surprise that Stanton has gotten off to a slow start this season, even if he has been heating up recently. It’s just hard to imagine getting psyched up when you have Placido Polanco hitting behind you. With Jeffrey Loria owning the team, it’s inevitable that Stanton will not stay with the Fish for his whole career, especially since there would be no way he would sign an extension even if they had the money to sign him.

So why not just “get off the pot” and get the best possible package for him now?

I feel that Stanton is a better version of Justin Upton, and it’s likely that any/every team in the majors would be willing to fork over a lot of young talent to get their hands on the prodigious power hitter. Trading Stanton would be a win-win situation for everyone involved (except for the prospects, perhaps); plus, it will get rid of all the awkwardness involved in this situation.

So, Mr. Loria, do yourself and Giancarlo a favor by closing up shop. We will all thank you.
