UFC founder Dana White is never one to mince words.

In his occasional YouTube “Presidential Address”, White took Floyd Mayweather to task, saying he was a racist for his detrimental comments about Jeremy Lin.

White also panned to Mayweather for his comment about Manny Pacquiao needing to “go make sushi somewhere” in spite of the fact he is from the Phillipines, not Japan.

White’s comments– while sensitive- might have been intended to catch everyone’s attention to lay out White’s bigger issue.

White lays out that Mayweather should take on Pacquiao, a fight boxing fans have anticipated for some time. Mayweather has said he will only consider the fight if he is given a bigger percentage of the guaranteed fight purse than his opponent. In White’s opinion, it should be a 50/50 split of the fight purse and may the best man win.

While I don’t always agree with Dana White’s stances, and think he is often controversial for its own sake, this is one time that I am on his side.  Fans have been waiting for the Mayweather/Pacquiao matchup for years now and it’s potential occurance now lies in the hands of Floyd Mayweather.

Dana White’s a business person first-and-foremost, and a damn good one at that. He has created an international brand which has placed boxing on its heels.  Say what you will about him, but maybe it’s time boxing started to bend an ear in his direction.
