Kyle Busch was a favorite going into Richmond but it was his Nationwide team that pulled the upset during Friday night’s race.

In a night where most of the spotlight was on the debut of Travis Pastrana and where Danica Patrick finished compared to Pastrana, Kyle Busch Motorsports pulled off the upset.

As a first year program, the No. 54 team has been fighting to get to the top in the Nationwide series but on Friday night a fight to the finish gave the team their first win.  Older brother Kurt Busch grabbed the checkered flag after battling younger brother Kyle’s teammate Denny Hamlin in the final laps.

KBM has been a successful team in the past in the Camping World Trucks Series. In the trucks series KBM won the owners championship for the No. 18 in the 2010 season. Several of Kyle Busch’s wins came in the KBM truck.

With the victory at Richmond, KBM’s nationwide program can look forward to success.  Although both Busch brothers compete for Sprint Cup points, the No. 54 Nationwide team races for Owner points. Within time the Nationwide program can be as successful as the Trucks program or even surpass it.
