Los Angeles Clippers Rumors: David West Among Team’s Top Off-Season Targets

Brian Spurlock-USA Today Sports

It’s certainly going to be an interesting off-season for the Los Angeles Clippers. After making the decision not to bring back head coach Vinny Del Negro for next season, the Clippers are attempting to get their ducks in a row and build off one of their better years in franchise history.

The only potential issue that is at stake is that Chris Paul is a free agent and there’s no question that if they hope to improve from last season, he needs to be apart of it.

While Paul is obviously the team’s top target this summer, the name David West will surely to be linked to their plans, as well. West, who is currently preparing for Wednesday’s Eastern Conference Finals as a member of the Indiana Pacers, will be a free agent this summer and after seeing the Memphis Grizzlies virtually manhandle the Clippers inside this past postseason, adjustments clearly need to be made.

West would be a good fit in Los Angeles, just imagine a front court rotation of Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and West. That’s a lineup that will surely be expected to play with a physical presence.

According to ESPN‘s Marc Stein, the Clippers will make a “hard push” at West once the market opens up. Don’t expect Indiana to simply let into Los Angeles’ push however, as the Pacers too will be in the mix for the free agent power forward.

West, who is 32 years old, has crafted himself quite the NBA career and he is averaging 17.1 points and 7.7 rebounds heading into Game 1 of the Easter Conference Finals on Wednesday.
