Well, the Huskers may have only won by a touchdown this week, and played poorly, but four Huskers have earned national honors this week. It seems awkward that the Huskers could have barely won, but earned so many honors. They should not take this lightly, but should not put thought into it. This is an honor of hard work, but it means absolutely nothing the next time you step on that sideline.

Taylor Martinez was named B1G 10 offensive player of the week after completing 16 of 22 passes for 191 yards and a pair of scores. T-Magic also ran the ball well, carrying it 17 times for 102 yards and another score. Taylor has also been nominated for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week. However, I’m not sure he was the best player in the B1G 10 this week.

Rivals.com tabbed Rex Burkhead as the B1G 10 offensive player of the week, and I completely agree. He rushed 26 times for 119 yards, while also catching 5 balls for 59 yards. Rex also made a great move on his longest reception of the night, a 30 yard score where he juked out a Buckeyes defender. The next drive, he would scamper 17 yards into the end zone, giving the Huskers their first and only lead, which would hold up.

Lavonte David continues his extraordinary play from last season into this season, including this game. He had 13 tackles, a tackle for loss, and probably the play of night. His strip and recovery of a Braxton Miller fumble turned the momentum around for the Huskers. David was honored with the Lott Impact Player of the Week award.

Brett Maher was again named the B1G 10 Special Teams Player of the Week Award (also won vs UTC week 1), after connecting on both his field goal attempts, including tying his career long of 50 yards. He also punted 4 times, averaging 44.3 yards, and had two of his kickoffs downed as a touchback.

These Huskers earned their awards this week, but it means nothing when they step on the field next weekend vs Minnesota.
