Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Rex Burkhead is beloved by Husker fans all across the nation. Superman, as he is also known as, recently received a little love from ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit as one of his best “Old School: Throwback Players” and also being listed on the All Herbie Team, what a college football team should look like.

However, Rex Burkehad was not given much love for a potential Heisman season. Last year,  Monte Ball was the man to garner the attention among the B1G 10‘s running backs. Sure, Ball did run for quite a bit of yards, scored a few touchdowns in a variety of ways, and helped his team win the B1G 10, but unlike Rex, Ball had a consistent quarterback at the helm.

Monte Ball might have had the better stats, but Rex Burkhead was more important to his team. And this season, the Nebraska athletic department is about to show some love to Rex.

The short link is for (potentially) Rex Burkehead’s Hesiman Website, “http://rexburkhead22.com/rb22/”. While the site is currently listed as “coming soon”, expect that to change very soon.

In the last few Heisman campaigns, university’s have gotten involved to try and make the general public more aware of the spectacular plays that their student-athlete has done for their team.

The athletic department is going to back Rex Burkhead after not doing enough to help Tommie Frazier win his Heisman (and let’s be honest, it should have been him). While Eric Crouch did win one over Rex Grossman, Crouch made a lot of flashy plays that season. Not to say Burkhead won’t this season, but Rex will do the little things correctly. They may not be the flashiest, but he will get his yards and touchdowns.

Now that Burkhead is going to get some well deserved PR, it’s time for the rest of the country to show him the love he deserves. I don’t necessarily mean a Heisman, but his name should be thrown out there with the best of the running backs in the league.
