New York Mets Get Swept By Houston Astros In Houston
This afternoon, the Houston Astros finished a 3-game sweep against the New York Mets in what is likely last time the two teams will play each other in Houston with the Houston Astros in the National League. The New York Mets didn’t look strong in this series, and they need to pick it up.
Monday evening, the New York Mets sent R.A. Dickey to the mound to face Bud Norris. While Dickey didn’t look great, he got his job done, giving up three runs in six innings. The Mets then handed the ball over to Manny Acosta, who, in turn, lost it. He had a 1-2-3 inning his first inning. Terry Collins then sent him out for a second inning and he only got one out and allowed two hits and one earned run. Final Score: Mets 3, Astros 4.
Tuesday evening, the New York Mets sent Jon Niese to try and even the series against J.A. Happ. Niese struggled early, and only pitched three innings giving up six hits, five runs, all earned, two home runs, and walking two. He recorded only one strikeout. Happ, on the other hand, went six innings allowing six hits, three runs, all earned, three walks, and struck out seven. I disagree with pulling Niese after three. While he didn’t have his best stuff, he was calming down and then Collins pulled him. He should have let Niese at least try the fourth. What’s worse is that Niese only threw 60 pitches, so Collins didn’t even remove him because of that. Final Score: Mets 3, Astros 6.
In the series finale, the New York Mets sent Chris Schwinden to the mound to try and get at least a win out of the series. He took on Wandy Rodriguez. Schwinden, for the second consecutive start, did not pitch well. He only went 4 innings, giving up six hits, five runs, all earned, two home runs, two walks, and one strikeout. Rodriguez went 7 innings, allowing six hits, one run, it was earned, two walks, and five strikeouts. Schwinden struggled, then Terry Collins brought in Acosta, who also struggled, giving up another three runs. Final Score: Mets 1, Astros 8.
