In the midst of the Johan Santana saga, the New York Mets have shut down their left handed ace, and call upon Collin McHugh to salvage the final game of a four game set against the lowly Colorado Rockies.

McHugh, 25, will make his major league debut Thursday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies who are looking to sweep the Mets. A lot of speculation was thrown in the way of highly touted prospect Jennry Mejia to make his debut, but Mets GM Sandy Alderson decided it was time for McHugh’s promotion instead.

McHugh was 5-5 with a 2.41 ERA with the Binghamton Mets (Double-A) this year, and 2-4 with an era of 3.39 with the Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A).

McHugh and the Mets will face Tyler Chatwood and the Colorado Rockies at 1:10pm at Citi Field.
