One of the biggest questions heading into the 2013 season is whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles will be able to bounce back after a disappointing 2012 season in which they finished with a 4-12 record. This team certainly has plenty of questions to be answered when it comes to the quarterback position, but there’s one thing that is clear–they won’t have to worry about Trent Edwards.
The Eagles parted ways with Edwards on Monday and this should really come as no surprise to anyone considering how many quarterbacks are already on the roster. While all signs point to Michael Vick being the starter once again, Philadelphia also has Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, and G.J. Kinne on their current roster–so it’s no surprise to see them part ways with Edwards.
Sure, Edwards could have been beneficial to have on the roster as a possible mentor to Foles if the organization still has plans to eventually make him their franchise quarterback, but there was no reason to have him on board heading into next season. Edwards has received plenty of opportunities over the years to prove himself as an effective quarterback in the pros, but it’s clear he simply was never a good fit in Philadelphia.
Luckily for the Eagles, this will be one of those moves that won’t have an impact on the 2013 season. If anything, it just answers a question that everybody already knew–which is there was no room for Edwards on the roster.
