Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan Taking the Right Approach With Contract Situation

(Dale Zanine/USA Today Sports)

With the way he’s performed over the first five seasons of his career, it’s safe to say Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has proven to be one of the top players at his position in the league and the fact that the team has reached the playoffs in four of the last five seasons shows just how much of an impact he’s made. Even if this past season was the first year the Falcons won a playoff game under Ryan, there’s no questioning his ability as a quarterback–which is why it’s only a matter of time before he earns a new contract.

The only question is–when will that contract come for Ryan?

Everybody knows Atlanta will give Ryan a new hefty contract at some point, but the quarterback deserves all of the credit in the world for not letting it become a distraction in the offseason. Instead of complaining about the lack of progress in trying to work out a new deal, Ryan has made it clear he’s not worried at all about receiving a new contract and instead–he just seems to be letting it play out and work itself out.

Obviously, the Falcons realize how foolish it would be to just let Ryan go and the quarterback seems confident enough that the two sides will eventually will work something out. Who knows–maybe Ryan is looking at how Joe Flacco‘s situation from last season and wondering if he could take a similar approach and earn one of the top contracts in the league.
