Montee Ball went down with a non-contact injury in the Denver Broncos’ 41-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Reports are that the injury could be serious and sideline Ball for a significant amount of time. Denver might be looking to add a running back to the roster going forward to keep their backfield depth strong as they make a run at another deep run into the playoffs. Here are five running backs the Broncos should consider signing.

After already going through training camp with the team and getting signed to their practice squad, Bibbs has an edge over other possible replacements due to his experience with the offense. While he’s not technically a free agent, Bibbs flashed some solid ability in the preseason which could translate into a limited role for the undrafted rookie on the main roster.

4. Felix Jones

Back in 2012, Felix Jones looked like a potential breakout candidate following a strong season with the Dallas Cowboys where he averaged 3.6 yards per carry, 10.5 yards per reception, and scored five total touchdowns in a complementary role. If he can re-capture the spark he had in 2012, Jones could provide some explosiveness out of the backfield for Denver.

Michael Bush has played second-fiddle to some excellent backs in his career but has still shown a strong running style that could benefit the Broncos. While he didn’t get a lot of opportunities behind Matt Forte in Chicago the last two years, he’s proven to be productive with his touches, scoring eight touchdowns during his time as a Bear. His ability to churn out tough yards would be a major boost to the Denver running game.

2. Willis McGahee

If Denver is looking for someone with experience in their offense, Willis McGahee could be the best bet for the Broncos. Back in 2012, McGahee was thriving as the featured back, piling up 731 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games, before getting injured. The 11-year veteran definitely has some wear on the tires, but his previous experience in this offense could fast-track his ability to contribute to this offense.

An injury suffered in training camp has kept the former Bengals back from getting snatched up, but he continues to get healthy and could be an excellent addition to the Denver backfield. His physical style would complement the explosive Hillman well in short-yardage and goal line situations, providing some much-needed muscle to the Bronco running attack.
